Lineisy Montero, the Dominican model who became a designer favorite after her debut on the Prada runway, has taken the industry by storm! As we watched the shows this season, from New York to Paris, Lineisy was literally everywhere. She is silently becoming the new face of fashion’s diversity initiative as she has rocked the runway for several designers including Balmain, Céline, Balenciaga, Coco Chanel, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton and more!
There has been so much controversy around the lack of cultural diversity in the fashion industry, especially in the booking of models for campaigns and runway shows. It’s a breath of fresh air to see a model of color slaying the runway in her natural black afro, alongside other models who wear slick ponytails, beach waves and elaborate updos. In the past, we would only see an afro if the collection was inspired by a certain era or theme.
Like our fav Lupita Nyong’o, Lineisy Montero is breaking barriers and challenging the industry and its so called standard of beauty. People of color are wearing designer clothing, so we expect to see ourselves in the campaigns as well…Right?!
