Marc Jacobs Fall 2017 RTW

Riley Montana in Marc Jacobs
Marc Jacobs' Hip-Hop Influenced Runway Show The Cool Kids Take Over the Park Avenue Armory We definitely have NOT forgotten about the Marc Jacobs collection from last season that took cultural appropriation to another level with Caucasian models strutting the runway in multicolored faux locks. Immediately after the social media storm, Jacobs began defending himself and his statements only made the situation worse! Aside from that, he listed over 10 inspirations including Harajuku girls, London in the 80's, Boy George, Ravers, House music and more, yet there was just one very important inspiration that was conveniently excluded! The issue he truly faced was not the fact that he used locks in his show, but that it was overwhelmingly white (models) AND he...

Philippe Plein Menswear Fall 2017

From Mugshots to Headshots Prison Bae opens the Philipp Plein Runway Show at Fashion Week Jeremy Meeks, the man we all know and love as #PrisonBae opened the Philippe Plein runway show in a fur-hooded parka with Nas and Lauryn Hill blasting, "If I Ruled the World" in the background. With cheek bones for the gawds, gangsta tats and piercing eyes, Jeremy stole the show (well, the press) and got the opportunity to walk alongside Fetty Wap, Desiigner, and Yung Thug, among others. Plein is looking to take over the American market and believes that (we) are spoiled, but recognizes the economic potential. According to VOGUE, Plein said...

Elie Saab Spring 2017 Couture

Elie Saab Goes Hollywood, Egyptian-Style Designer Features Jewel-Encrusted Sunnies to Match Beading The Elie Saab Spring 2017 Couture Collection is full of elaborate embellishment and old Hollywood vibes, but the veteran designer slayed with his jewel-encrusted sunnies to match the beading on the dresses. Inspired by the "Golden Age of Egyptian Cinema," the collection feels like over-the-top versions of the Jackie Kennedy look. Every gown is red carpet worthy and we can't wait to see which celebrities will  indulge during award season. Images: Vogue Runway...

Zuhair Murad Fall 2016 Couture

Zuhair Murad's Hippie Couture Collection Diverse Models Slay in Embellished Gowns & Thigh High Boots Innovative designer, Zuhair Murad never seems to disappoint! This season he gives LIFE with no parole as diverse models parade the runway in embellished lace, velvet, capes, chic hats and super sexy thigh high boots.  Pinched waist lines, sequins, bell-sleeves and form fitting cuts defined this collection, while the crimson and purple added a hint of color to otherwise black, beige, and soft pink looks. Yes, it sounds like way too much for any one collection, but Murad makes it WERK! It feels much like hippie chic, but actually looks more like rock star couture! Not sure that we are loving the wide buckled belts though. “She’s young,...

Welcome To My Jungle

Olivier Rousteing declared,  "I'm French, I'm black, and I'm proud to be at Balmain, but this is a message of freedom and globalism," he said. The collection, said to be a mash-up of safari chic and hip-hop style and one that embraces different ethnicities and cultures, and is reflective of his latest campaign face and new friend, Rihanna. We love it! There were cargo jackets and pants, leopard spots and zebra stripes, leather latticed with silk cord and gold chain, oversize motorcycle jackets, and electric pops of red and yellow lamb's fur, all showed on one of the most diverse castings of the season. Check out a few runway photos featuring models of color. Click any image to see full gallery. Photos:...
