Tracy Reese Resort 2015

“I’ve been looking for a denim skirt for about eight years, and there is not much selection,” said Tracy Reese of her decision to make a denim skirt for Resort. “And I know that my customer is looking, too.” But this is Reese—an unabashedly girly designer—which meant the classic workwear fabric had been feminized. For the season’s denim midi skirt and high-waisted flares, she used a stretchy denim jacquard in herringbone and python prints. A fitted denim dress was done in an oversized floral eyelet and looked anything but casual.

The designer moved away from her typical florals this season and played with butterflies instead, both literally (on a printed linen-silk jacquard dress) and figuratively (on a series of silk-crepe dresses with fluttery sleeves and a flouncy back). Reese may love her frills, but there was a casual-cool feeling to the season’s best ideas. A chunky ribbed-knit sweater came with a detachable white cotton peplum. Paired with a more proper pencil skirt in leopard knit, the look really spoke to Reese desire to include “wear now” pieces in every collection. (These clothes will hit stores at the beginning of winter.) “We’re thinking monthly,” said Reese. “It’s important that there are things she can wear when this ships.”
